Here's one of the neighborhood kitties, Miss Blanka, checking out my sockapalooza sock! We're in the home stretch with this baby, and it's coming out really nice! I realized that the pattern is a lot like the making waves lace socks from Interweave, but not quite the same. I hope my pal likes them!
The socks is resting on the lobelia I planted out front earlier this spring. The ones in the shade got huge, but the ones in the sun aren't as big, so note to self. My tomatoes are also coming along, but aren't ripening yet. My lettuces are doing really well, thanks to the donation of seeds by my friend Todd - I planted the second round of seeds today, so we have two bowls planted in succession two weeks apart. We had a little bit of salad mix for dinner tonight, and I think in a week we'll be able to just shear off the top for a bowl of greens. The hot peppers aren't so happy, but I'm chalking that up to gardening in a new climate. We're making plans for a lot of container gardening next season, perhaps a little this fall as well. My first gardens were in small spaces and containers, so I feel pretty confident about that. Plus I'll get to order from Territorial Seeds again, and Johnny's - my favorite way to spend a winter has always been pouring over seed catalogs and planning my gardens. That and designing menus for my dinner parties, but it seems to be going a bit slow on meeting people here, so gardening will probably take top billing for the first winter.
I did get to meet Rachel finally though! We went to the farmer's market on saturday, and she has a stall there selling seriously gorgeous yarns which she and her business partner spin. People, they are amazing and gorgeous and soft and when I get more money....they will be mine. And yay, I met a person, a knitter even! I was probably a blathering fool though, I tend to do that when I'm nervous. I'm planning on going to her studio this week though, and bringing brownies made from scratch. Chocolate makes friends, right? I was supposed to be going to Seattle to see the Harlot with the Rabbitch, but it doesn't look like we can get down there and back in time, and can't take any time off. I wish they would have scheduled it for the weekend. I was really looking forward to meeting them both. As it is, if I have any hope of meeting the Harlot at all, it will be Saturday, and in the rabbitch's stomping grounds, but she will be down here in mine. The irony is not lost on me...not when, as my college-age neighbor put it this weekend, I'm rather desperate to meet people right now. Anyway, if you're going to be in Seattle, I highly recommend saying hello to the Rabbitch - she rocks.
Thank God for cute animal pictures. I just listened to part of Bush's speech after he appointed Bolton to the UN, and I feel seriously dirty. But our neighbor's cat helps immensely. Not to mention the red sock. Red makes everything better.

Dude, if you're around on Saturday, later afternoon/early evening maybe we could meet for a few minutes, although I'll have family in tow.
If that doesn't work, then hmm, how 'bout setting up a time for some sort of bacchanalia in the near future?
And I'm disappointed you're not coming to Seattle. Scared I'll be sitting there all alone, but I'll tough it out!
