I start eves and weekends tomorrow, and am home for a few days beforehand. And I'm pissed. Because my guilty pleasure when I'm home during the day working on sewing projects or pretending to study for my history of rock music class is watch daytime TV. (shut up. you have guilty pleasures too) So today the only thing on, which will doubtless be repeated tonight and pre-empt the crime dramas, is the completely gratuitous mourning of the late king of pop. Where were all these superstars when he was on trial? Aside from being annoyed that it's on every freakin channel like it's world news (not that world news would ever be on every channel in the u.s., but still), it's pretty disgusting to flip through and see various people using a death for their own self-promotion. Again. Plus I'm stuck watching Steven Raichlen on PBS and besides the most annoying hair ever he keeps saying basil as baaaaaaaaa-sil. Like the proper name of a person. Basil the herb is pronounced bay-zil, and it's making me cringe every time he says baaaaa-sil. This guy is the biggest dork ever. He just said, straight to the camera, "you probably noticed I am obsessed with grill marks". He reminds me of every 9 year old boy ever videotaped by his mother making a complete ass of himself. It's really too much like watching Bob Ross cook. And while Bob Ross always holds a special place in my heart, I don't want to watch him cook. I know this guy is the king of grilling, but he's annoying to watch. ugh.
Speaking of cooking, I wish I had my little (now dead) camera back, because I've made some gorgeous stuff lately. Homemade gf waffles again. A gorgeous cold asian noodle salad for lunch over napa cabbage, alongside some fresh salad rolls with peanut sauce. Some passable jambalaya that the Budgie liked more than I. And for dessert last night, a pile of fresh berries topped with whipped coconut milk, over some cookies I made just for this purpose. Super fresh and tasty! I recycled some gf muffins I'd purchased that were less than stellar, and got tossed in the freezer for a future creative venture. I ground up one muffin, added some chestnut flour, and melted butter and pressed it into the bottom of a ring mold to shape a 4 perfect circles, and baked them. They made nice crumbly crusts for the berries and coconut whip.
oh my. i'm sorry about the daytime tv experience... sounds like good food though. we are up to our eyeballs in zukes and cukes. Used some of the zukes for lasagna last night. Even D. said it was tasty and he doesn't much care for the zukes.
